Go-Bar GoBar Go-BarNo Reserve
You are bidding on 25 new, high quality white fiberglass Go-Bars for instrument building. Each Go-Bar is 24’’ long, 3/16’’ in diameter, and includes 2 durable nylon end caps. We include complementary replacement end caps with each order.
Please note that the nylon end caps are not attached to the rods when shipped, and should be placed on the ends before using the Go-Bars.
What is a Go-Bar?
A Go-Bar is a flexible rod used in a centuries-old technique of clamping. Go-Bar clamping is in many ways superior to modern clamping systems.
Benefits of the Go-Bar clamping method:
·
Each Go-Bar provides consistent and constant pressure.
·
Go-Bars are inexpensive, economically allowing many to be used at once.
·
Go-Bars can be placed close together without interfering with each other.
·
Go-Bars can be placed in hard to reach areas.
·
Go-Bars can be both positioned and quickly removed with one hand.
·
Clamp width and throat depth are not a factor.
Benefits of our Go-Bars
·
Our Go-Bars are designed specifically for joining bracing to the top and back of musical instruments, and also the top and back to the sides. They provide the right amount of pressure (about 10 pounds each) to join surfaces without squeezing out too much glue (and ultimately starving the joint).
·
The thickness of our Go-Bar rod is 3/16’’; we have found that 1/4 ‘’ rods result in too much pressure for building instruments.
·
Standard length is 24 inches (24’’), allowing for a 30 inch (30’’) deck to be used for both joining bracing and attaching top and back to sides.
·
Extra tips are included with each order.
·
Our nylon end tips are engineered to fit snugly to the Go-Bar ends, while also being easily replaceable.
·
Our high quality white fiberglass resists ‘memory effect’ common to wood strips and dowels.
·
Our fiberglass is engineered to extremely consistent specifications, resulting in repeatable results.
·
To ensure the tightest fit, and to allow for gluing, our Go-Bar ends do not come attached to the rods.
Warnings:
·
More flex does not increase pressure significantly; too much flex can cause Go-Bars to slip. More Go-Bars spread out creates the best joint.
·
Always wear safety glasses when using Go-Bars.
·
Never try to cut a Go-Bar without seeking professional advice and using proper equipment.
·
Use a caul whenever possible to prevent scuff and pressure marks, and to create an even more uniform clamping pressure.
·
Try to keep both ends of Go-Bar in same vertical plane
