The majority of advertising pens were made in China and did not write well or not for very long. It is not recommended to purchase these pens for writing, however, sometimes it is possible to find similar or identical replacement refills at office supply stores. There are some universal refills that snap off to different lengths or feature assorted spacers to change the length. Typically, the replacement refills write better and for longer than the original.
This assortment varies by color, style, materials and functioning. The last 2 pens to the right in the first group picture are highlighters. Some pens are pictured individually to show unique features or unusual colors.
One very unusual pen features a pullout information sheet under spring tension that pulls out and rolls up similar to a window shade. The information sheet is about 2-inches long, but these pens are very fragile, and every time I've seen the sheet pulled all the way out, the internal rewind mechanism broke, and the note would not retract. One picture shows the note pulled out a slight amount to show functioning. I would not recommend pulling it out very far and not doing it often. However, because these pens were frequently broken and discarded, it is likely very rare.
